The Witcher: CD Projekt Red talks about the future of the series

Having first made a name for itself in the field of video game publishing, in particular by fully dubbing major productions, CD Projekt RED is today a world-renowned development studio, and the second-largest company in the field in Europe, after Ubisoft.

The studio is now famous thanks to its two flagship licenses, The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Although the latter, which was originally scheduled to be released in April, has been postponed until September, that does not prevent CD Projekt RED from having more projects. Adam Kiciński, President of CD Projekt RED, spoke to Eurogamer about this, and in particular about the future of The Witcher series. It's no secret that the studio wants to develop the license more and that it has come to an agreement about the rights with the author of the novels, Andrzej Sapkowski. However, Adam Kiciński began by reminding us that there will not be a The Witcher 4, since the first three games form a trilogy.

"We've been working on a next single-player game already, creating a clear concept that waits for further development. We'll start working on this next game right after Cyberpunk 2077. We have two worlds and we want to create games in those two worlds. That's why all planned games are either Witcher or Cyberpunk."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not have a sequel per se, but other games taking place in the same universe will follow it. We still wonder if we will have the opportunity to meet Geralt of Rivia in the next game.

In any case, we will have to be patient because this new game will not be released any soon. Kiciński has declared that only a small team would be working on development after Cyberpunk 2077. It seems that CD Projekt RED does not want to switch from one to the other too quickly, especially since they are aiming for the long term with Cyberpunk 2077, in particular with the multiplayer part of the game, which will be the main focus of the teams after the game is launched, aiming for a release in 2022.
