FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

: How does the 'Tech Tree' progression system unlock new crafting recipes and abilities, and what are the implications for early versus late-game player development?
The Tech Tree is a core progression system in Empyrion that dictates what technologies players can research and unlock. Players spend 'Research Points' earned through various activities like mining, combat, and completing missions to advance through different tiers of technology. Each tier unlocks more advanced crafting recipes for blocks, weapons, tools, and components, as well as new abilities and ship systems. This means that early game players are limited to basic survival tools and structures, while late-game players can design and build massive capital ships, complex automated bases, and utilize powerful energy weapons. The order in which players choose to progress through the Tech Tree can significantly impact their early-game survival and their ability to tackle later challenges and explore more dangerous sectors.; Explain the 'Stasis' mechanic and how it impacts the preservation of player-built structures and vessels when offline or in remote locations.
The Stasis mechanic is a crucial feature in Empyrion for managing resources and server performance. When a player logs off or moves a significant distance away from a structure or vessel, it enters a 'stasis' mode. In this mode, certain power-consuming components and systems on the structure or vessel are deactivated, significantly reducing its energy drain and preventing it from being a constant drain on resources or server load. However, it also means that some automated defenses or production facilities might cease to function while in stasis, making players consider where and how they build their bases and store their important assets. Reactivating a stasis-affected object requires the player to be in close proximity and often involves a brief power-up sequence.; How does the 'Food and Oxygen' survival mechanic influence player behavior and exploration choices, particularly in hostile or resource-scarce environments?
Empyrion incorporates a survival layer that includes managing food and oxygen levels. Players must consume food items or use medkits to maintain their hunger and health, and ensure they have an oxygen supply, especially when exploring planets with thin or toxic atmospheres or when venturing into space without a suit's internal supply. This mechanic forces players to prioritize resource gathering not just for crafting and building, but also for sustenance. Exploration is directly impacted, as players need to scout for food sources, establish oxygen generation facilities, or carry sufficient oxygen tanks for extended excursions. In hostile environments, managing these needs alongside combat and environmental hazards creates a constant tension and strategic decision-making process.; Describe the 'Planetary Scanner' and 'Energy Tool' mechanics and their role in resource acquisition and initial base construction.
The Planetary Scanner is an essential tool for any explorer in Empyrion. It allows players to detect underground resource deposits, points of interest, and alien structures within a certain radius. By triangulating signals from the scanner, players can pinpoint the exact location of valuable ores like Iron, Silicon, and Titanium, which are crucial for early-game survival and crafting. Once a resource node is found, players typically use the Energy Tool (or a Mining Drill attachment) to extract the raw materials. The efficiency of these tools, and the ability to scan for rarer resources, is tied to player progression and upgrades, making them fundamental to the initial loop of gathering materials needed to build a basic survival base and craft essential equipment.; How does the 'Crafting Station' and 'Constructor' system facilitate the transformation of raw resources into usable components, and what are the implications for player-driven economies and logistics?
The Crafting Station and Constructors are the heart of Empyrion's production pipeline. Raw resources gathered from mining and harvesting are processed in various types of Constructors (like the Small Constructor, Constructor, and Advanced Constructor) to create basic components such as ingots, plates, wires, and processors. These components are then used in turn within the same or different Constructors, or at a dedicated Crafting Station, to build more complex items like weapons, ship blocks, armor pieces, and advanced electronics. This tiered crafting system creates a demand for specific resources and components, influencing player logistics as they need to transport materials efficiently between mining sites, constructors, and storage. It also forms the basis for any player-driven economy, where players can specialize in producing certain components or items and trade them with others.
