We Were Here Tomorrow Is Here to Test Teamwork

We Were Here Tomorrow Launches, Putting Teamwork to the Test

In the We Were Here series, the hardest distance to bridge isn't always the space between two rooms. Sometimes, it's the gap between what one player sees and what the other understands. We Were Here Tomorrow builds on that familiar challenge, officially launching on October 20, 2026, for PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. This time around, Total Mayhem Games isn't simply bringing back puzzles that demand close cooperation. It's also taking players into a mysterious sci-fi world where even time and space can become part of the challenge.

Two Players, Two Perspectives, One Solution

In We Were Here Tomorrow, both players share the same objective, but neither sees the full picture. Each has access to different clues and must rely on a walkie-talkie to exchange information, gradually piecing together solutions that neither could figure out alone. Newcomers should keep in mind that the game is designed exclusively for two-player online co-op, with no single-player mode available. This reliance on communication has long been the heart of the series, as seen in earlier entries like We Were Here Together. Rather than simply revisiting that formula, Total Mayhem Games introduces puzzles that play with time, gravity, and space, while giving each character their own tools and abilities. Working together now involves more than exchanging instructions. Players also need to understand how their actions might affect what's happening on their partner's side.

The Greenhouse offers a particularly interesting example. Here, two players can explore the same location at different points in time, with changes made in the past directly affecting the environment their partner encounters in the future. The ability to switch between time periods adds another layer to the puzzle, as both players must constantly compare what they're seeing and work out how events are connected.

Elsewhere, shifting gravity and unusual spatial layouts turn movement and equipment use into puzzles of their own. The game also introduces Proximity Chat, allowing players to communicate more naturally when they're close to each other, alongside the series' familiar walkie-talkie system.

Behind these challenges lies a mystery that begins in the frozen wilderness of Antarctica. While searching for missing members of a research expedition, two explorers encounter an unexpected incident and awaken inside a mysterious facility operated by Norček Industries, with little memory of what happened to them. There, they meet Director Kathleen Bowe, who oversees an ambitious research program. As they delve deeper, secret experiments, vanished scientists, and a strange interdimensional rift suggest that the facility is hiding far more than anyone is willing to reveal. Escaping will require the two explorers to work together, but can they really trust the people guiding them?

Beyond its gameplay changes, We Were Here Tomorrow takes the series in a striking new visual direction. Gone are the ancient castles and snow-covered fantasy landscapes of previous installments, replaced by a sci-fi setting inspired by how people imagined the future back in the 1980s. Its Cassette Futurism aesthetic comes through in bulky control panels, elaborate machinery, old-fashioned electronic displays, and corridors glowing with vibrant neon lights. Paired with a Synthwave soundtrack, Norček Industries feels both nostalgic and wonderfully strange, almost like stepping into a vision of tomorrow dreamed up decades ago.

For me, the appeal of We Were Here Tomorrow goes beyond its inventive new puzzle mechanics. What makes the experience interesting is how it continues to place mutual understanding at the center of everything. Sometimes, a single well-timed explanation is all it takes to turn a seemingly impossible puzzle into something surprisingly simple. With these latest additions, Total Mayhem Games is expanding its established formula without losing what makes the series special. Better yet, crossplay is available from launch, allowing friends on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to tackle the adventure together.
