Suicide Squad will require you to stay online
Sony’s latest State of Play event showcased several upcoming games, including Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. We learned many details about Suicide Squad from the 15-minute gameplay preview, shown here:
The first important detail is that Suicide Squad will be a live-service game, receiving continual updates over time. This means that even in single-player mode, you must always be online.
As you may recall, Suicide Squad is set five years after Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight. In this timeline, the villainous alien Brainiac has taken over the minds of several members of the Justice League, including Superman, Batman, and the Flash. Amanda Waller has given Task Force X, consisting of Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn, the green light to take on their obviously suicidal mission of slaying the superheroes. This game will notably be the last time we’ll hear Kevin Conroy perform his iconic voice role as Batman.
Apart from these villains, we’ll also see cameos from the likes of the Penguin, Gizmo, Toymaker, and a few others. In their FAQ, Rocksteady has confirmed that there will be a lot more content in future updates from the battle pass.
Studio Product Director Darius Sadeghian has this to say:
"We're going to have new playable characters, new weapons and new missions. For players who like to customise their looks, we'll offer a battle pass that only contains cosmetic items.”
The FAQ confirms that the battle pass will provide "new outfits, emotes and other items to customise playable characters." The game will also support crossplay, will run at 60 fps on consoles and PC, and will have no loot boxes.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to launch on May 26, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can pre-order a Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League PS5 key from our comparator, and keep an eye out for the battle pass.
