PS5 Pro games now support Sony’s upgraded PSSR upscaling technology
Sony has begun rolling out its upgraded PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology across a variety of games, with several partners already integrating the improved upscaler into their PS5 Pro titles. More updates are expected to follow.
In simple terms, PSSR is Sony’s AI-driven upscaling solution. It analyzes images on a pixel-by-pixel basis to enhance visual quality, even when games are rendered at lower resolutions. With the latest update, Sony has refined both the algorithm and neural network, resulting in more accurate image reconstruction, smoother motion, and giving developers greater control over balancing performance and visual fidelity on the PS5 Pro.
With the new “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” setting, PS5 Pro users can apply the latest version of PSSR even to games that haven’t been officially patched. This enables improved visuals through Sony’s updated upscaling method, though the company notes that results may vary without proper developer integration. As a result, the feature remains optional, and some titles may display minor visual inconsistencies.
The enhanced technology is part of Sony’s collaboration with AMD under Project Amethyst. Sony also indicated that AMD’s upcoming FSR update will incorporate similar advancements, suggesting that the current version of PSSR may already include features not yet present in FSR 4.
A number of games have already received PSSR upgrades, including Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Alan Wake 2, Control, Hellblade II, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. Additionally, Crimson Desert will launch with the improved PSSR, while Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077 are set to receive updates in the coming weeks.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is designed to deliver enhanced immersion, sharper visuals, and smoother performance, and the upgraded PSSR technology highlights Sony’s continued focus on advancing graphical quality in gaming.
