ASUS launches the ROG NUC 16 Edition 20, but it won’t come cheap

As the most powerful and premium gaming-oriented NUC produced by the company so far, the new ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 was developed to mark the 20th anniversary of ASUS's Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand.

Despite measuring just three liters in volume, the ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 packs enough power to rival many full-sized gaming desktops. Buyers get Intel's Core Ultra 9 290HX processor alongside an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU equipped with 24GB of GDDR7 memory. Together, the CPU and GPU can draw up to 300W, putting the tiny machine firmly in enthusiast territory.

The rest of the specifications are equally impressive. ASUS includes 64GB of DDR5-6400 memory out of the box using two 32GB SO-DIMM modules, while users can upgrade to 128GB by installing a pair of 64GB sticks. Storage starts with a 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, and the system leaves room for additional PCIe Gen5 and Gen4 drives if more capacity is needed.

Connectivity is similarly well equipped, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Thunderbolt 4, and 2.5Gb Ethernet all making the cut. ASUS also says the mini PC has passed MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability testing, allowing it to withstand harsh temperatures, pressure changes, and everyday wear. The included stand lets owners position the system vertically or horizontally depending on their setup.

All of that performance comes at a substantial cost. The ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 starts at $5,999 (approximately €5,160 / £4,480), making it around 57% more expensive than the standard ROG NUC 16 and roughly $2,200 pricier than the base model.

Pricing is even higher in China, where the same configuration sells for CNY 43,999 (~$6,469). ASUS also offers a version with 128GB of RAM for CNY 51,999 (~$7,645), although that model has yet to appear in other regions.

While the price is undeniably eye-watering, it's also a reflection of today's hardware market. Systems built around 64GB of DDR5 memory, an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with 24GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and a 2TB PCIe 5.0 SSD have become significantly more expensive as memory and storage costs continue to rise. For buyers looking for the most powerful gaming NUC ASUS has ever produced, however, the ROG NUC 16 Edition 20 delivers exactly that.
