ASUS unveils ROG NUC 16 Mini PC with powerful compact gaming hardware
ASUS has officially revealed the ROG NUC 16, a compact 3-litre gaming PC that combines high-end hardware with a console-sized design. Despite being significantly smaller than both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the system is capable of delivering considerably more gaming performance.
The new model can be configured with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX PLUS processor alongside Nvidia’s RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, making it one of the most powerful mini gaming PCs currently announced. Although Nvidia has not launched a new GPU generation this year, ASUS has still managed to improve performance through upgraded cooling and power delivery systems.
According to ASUS, the revised thermal design allows the ROG NUC 16 to achieve up to 12% more CPU and GPU thermal capacity compared to its predecessor. In synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark, the system shows modest but measurable graphics improvements, though the gains appear relatively small at around 2.3%. ASUS also notes that the system performs slightly better when placed horizontally rather than vertically.
The updated “QuietFlow” cooling system is designed to keep noise levels under 38 dBA even during sustained gaming workloads. ASUS has also added a dedicated SSD heatsink, which reportedly lowers SSD temperatures by as much as 18.5%. A built-in G-Sensor can automatically adjust cooling behavior depending on whether the system is positioned vertically or horizontally.
Unlike earlier ROG NUC models, the ROG NUC 16 is available in two color options: Obsidian Black and Moonlight White. Connectivity is another strong point, with support for Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 2.1. Networking features include Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5Gb Ethernet. On the rear, users get four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, while the front panel includes two additional USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Overall, ASUS’ latest mini gaming PC focuses on refining an already premium concept. While the hardware itself may not be entirely new, the improved cooling, quieter operation, stronger CPU performance, and compact footprint help make the ROG NUC 16 one of the most powerful small-form-factor gaming systems currently available.
