NVIDIA confirms August launch for DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction update
Nvidia has announced a major update for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, with the new DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model arriving this August for all GeForce RTX graphics cards. The update brings improvements to image quality, motion handling, and ray-traced lighting while remaining compatible with every RTX generation, from the RTX 20 series through to the latest RTX 50 series.
The new model features an expanded training dataset, additional developer controls, and a larger parameter count. Nvidia says DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction processes 20% more parameters while offering 35% greater compute capability, enabling more accurate reconstruction of ray-traced effects without sacrificing compatibility on older hardware.
Building on advancements introduced with DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, the updated Ray Reconstruction model benefits from improved motion data analysis, enhanced temporal stability, and better spatial awareness. According to Nvidia, these upgrades result in more accurate lighting, clearer motion, and fewer visual artifacts. The company has also trained the model on a significantly larger dataset and provided developers with greater control over temporal accumulation behavior, further improving overall image quality.
Unlike DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, which can introduce notable performance overhead on older GPUs, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction will continue to support all RTX graphics cards without additional hardware requirements. That means users with RTX 20-series and RTX 30-series GPUs will be able to take advantage of the improvements alongside owners of newer RTX 40- and 50-series cards.
Nvidia highlighted several examples of the new model in action, showcasing improvements such as reduced ghosting, fewer reconstruction artifacts, more detailed images, and clearer particle effects. In Pragmata, for example, laser effects appear more stable and dynamic while avoiding the persistent visual artifacts sometimes seen when the effects disappear from the scene.
At launch, DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction will be supported in 27 games. Nvidia expects many of these titles to gain support through DLSS Override options available in the Nvidia App, making the upgrade accessible without requiring extensive game updates.
The technology is also expanding beyond gaming. Nvidia confirmed that DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction will be integrated into Blender, where it will work alongside Nvidia OptiX to improve viewport rendering. By replacing slower denoising methods, the new model aims to deliver faster scene stabilization, more responsive workflows, and image quality that more closely resembles the final rendered result, helping creators work more efficiently.
