Nioh 3 Features Epic Boss Battles

Nioh 3 gameplay reveal: Epic Takeda Shingen boss battle

The latest gameplay trailer for Nioh 3 has given fans an extended look at one of its most striking encounters yet, a brutal duel with the legendary warlord Takeda Shingen, also known as the “Tiger of Kai.” The footage highlights not only the intensity of the boss fight but also the direction Team Ninja is taking with this highly anticipated sequel.

The centerpiece of the new trailer, of course, is the showdown with Takeda Shingen. Presented as a towering and relentless adversary, his move set blends crushing strength with dramatic flair, forcing players to balance aggression with patience. His attacks are both cinematic and punishing, embodying the unforgiving nature of the soulslike genre while showcasing the game's visual polish. You can watch the video right below, courtesy of IGN.

A new approach at the franchise

Unlike Nioh 2, the new installment in the popular frachise is adopting a semi-open world approach rather than sticking to purely linear levels. Players will explore expansive regions filled with lurking yokai, haunted villages, and hidden dangers. This broader structure promises to make exploration as tense and rewarding as combat. The game is confirmed for both PlayStation 5 and PC, with its Steam page already live, though system requirements have not yet been detailed.

One of the most intriguing features in Nioh 3 is the dual combat system, allowing players to switch between two distinct fighting styles. The Samurai stance emphasizes power and precision, featuring new techniques like Arts Proficiency to amplify strikes and Deflect for perfectly timed counters. Meanwhile, the Ninja stance leans on agility and trickery, enabling evasive maneuvers and unique abilities such as Mist (which creates illusions) and Evade (for last-second dodges). This layered system pushes players to adapt dynamically depending on their opponent.

Earlier this year, an alpha demo gave players a first taste of Nioh 3, and allowed Team Ninja to gather community feedback to refine controls, smooth out difficulty spikes, improve graphical fidelity, and create clearer tutorials. The developers have indicated that these adjustments will feed directly into the final release, ensuring a more polished experience.

Currently slated for early 2026, Nioh 3 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the series. With its hybrid combat system, larger world design, and thrilling boss encounters like Takeda Shingen, the game looks set to deliver both the punishing challenge and deep strategy fans have come to expect.
