Mycopunk 1.0 Arrives with a Wealth of New Content

Mycopunk Reaches Version 1.0 with a Wealth of New Content
Updates & Patches

Since entering Early Access in July 2025, Mycopunk has spent over a year developing and refining its wonderfully bizarre ideas: robots working for hire, alien fungal infestations, and an arsenal that encourages players to get creative. On October 20, 2026, developer Pigeons at Play officially brought the Devolver Digital-published FPS to version 1.0, marking the end of its Early Access journey and its debut on PlayStation 5. But this milestone is about much more than simply removing the Early Access label. For players already familiar with the battlefields of New Atlas, there's now plenty of fresh content waiting to be explored.

What's New in Mycopunk 1.0?

One of the biggest additions in this update is The Mycologist, a new playable character who was part of the first expedition sent to New Atlas following the fungal outbreak. Having spent more than a year stranded there, she brings an unusual set of abilities to the battlefield, including Sporelift, Fungal Skewer, and a passive skill tied to infection effects. However, players won't have access to her straight away. They'll first need to rescue her during the Expedition Alpha mission. It's an interesting way to tie character progression into exploration rather than simply adding another option to the existing roster.

For those who enjoyed Mycopunk's weapon customization system during Early Access, version 1.0 opens up even more possibilities for experimenting with different combat styles. The standout addition is the Diffraction Driver, an ion weapon that fires in a cone-shaped spread at close range. By adjusting its halo mechanism, players can narrow the firing angle to extend its effective range, making it more versatile across different combat situations. The weapon becomes available to unlock using resources once players reach level 10.

Another new addition is the Snowball Grenade, which uses Cryo effects to give players an extra option for controlling enemies during combat.

Of course, new equipment is even more exciting when there are fresh challenges to put it through its paces. Version 1.0 introduces X11-B, a new area located on a small moon of New Atlas. Designed around high-difficulty missions, this location is intended to challenge players equipped with powerful builds. It could prove particularly appealing to veterans who have spent much of Early Access developing their characters and fine-tuning their loadouts. The Snowball Grenade can also be unlocked through this area, providing another incentive to venture into its dangerous territory.

There's more to tackle beyond X11-B. The new Population Control mission tasks players with clearing out areas packed with enemies, with the possibility of encountering dangerous Abominations along the way. Meanwhile, a new side quest called The Couch sends players on a rather different errand: helping Roachard find a suitable sofa for the HUB. Amid all the chaos of fighting alien fungal creatures, a ridiculous little task like this feels perfectly in keeping with Mycopunk's offbeat sense of humor.

Beyond the new content, Pigeons at Play has also introduced a range of improvements to polish the existing experience. Some of the more notable changes include:

  • Fulfillments: A new in-game achievement system that lets players track their progress through various challenges and earn cosmetic rewards, including new hats. Some achievements can also recognize progress made before the update.
  • HUB and Drop Pod: The HUB has received a visual overhaul, while the Drop Pod sports a redesigned appearance that remains compatible with previously released skins.
  • Balance and Upgrades: Several enemies have been adjusted, character upgrade trees have been reworked, and the maximum enemy count has been slightly reduced for solo players at Threat Levels 3–4.
  • Performance: Rendering improvements have been implemented across Ice Floes, procedurally generated levels, and certain visual effects.

Another noteworthy change concerns mission completion. If no team member manages to board the Drop Pod during extraction, the mission will now end in failure. This makes the final escape an even more important part of each operation, especially during chaotic encounters where the entire squad must fight its way back to safety.

Taken as a whole, Mycopunk 1.0 does more than mark the end of Early Access. It significantly expands the options available to players who have already spent plenty of time with the game. Personally, I appreciate that Pigeons at Play has chosen to introduce new combat content alongside improvements to existing systems, rather than relying on just a handful of headline features to celebrate the milestone. Naturally, the developer has acknowledged that some issues remain in version 1.0, but these additions give returning players plenty of reasons to jump back in. And with the arrival of the PS5 version, newcomers now have another opportunity to join the fungal extermination crew.
