Leaked specs of Intel's Nova Lake CPUs suggest a significant performance boost
In the most recent earnings call, Intel announced that their upcoming "Nova Lake" desktop processors are set to debut in 2026. Recent leaks suggest that these new CPUs are intended to provide a significant enhancement in overall CPU performance. The number of cores is expected to double compared to the current Arrow Lake desktop CPUs, allowing for as many as 16 P-cores and 32 E-cores. Intel seems to have embraced multi-threaded performance enhancement.
To bring you up to speed, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K features 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores. Therefore, one can anticipate that Intel’s flagship Nova Lake CPU will deliver twice the performance and efficiency compared to what the Arrow Lake-S CPUs currently provide.
According to the leaked details, the following configurations of Nova Lake CPUs will be offered.
- NVL-S: 2x(8+16)
- NVL-HX: 1x(8+16)
- NVL-S/NVL-H: 4+8
- NVL-U: 4+0

Given this information, Intel is set to substantially enhance its multi-threaded capabilities with Nova Lake. However, it remains uncertain how much faster Intel’s new CPUs will perform in single-threaded tasks. It’s important to note that the P-cores handle high-performance and demanding applications, while the E-cores manage background tasks and less intensive applications, all while maintaining energy-efficient processing. Therefore, more cores will lead to superior performance and efficiency in the CPU.
Intel has confirmed that it will release the Panther Lake series CPUs this year. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Intel has only demonstrated these CPUs operating in laptops, suggesting that Panther Lake may be a CPU line exclusive to laptops.
With the launch of Intel’s Nova Lake CPUs scheduled for 2026, they will be in competition with AMD’s forthcoming Zen 6 CPUs. Presently, the specifications of AMD’s next-generation Zen 6 CPUs are not known, but significant architectural changes are anticipated for AMD’s next desktop CPU lineup.
