Killer Bean is rough, ridiculous, and kind of brilliant
There are a lot of shooters out there trying to look serious. Tactical vests, grim soldiers, the same grey warehouses, the same angry men shouting into radios. Then there is Killer Bean, a game where the deadliest thing on the map is literally a coffee bean with guns. That sounds like a joke, and to be fair, it is partly a joke, but the funny thing is that the game actually has a real shooter hiding under all the madness.
The setup is simple in the best possible way. Killer Bean is a rogue assassin who has turned against the people he used to work for, and now he has to wipe out the Shadow Agency and pretty much every armed bean stupid enough to stand in his way. It is the kind of plot that knows exactly what it is. You are not here for emotional monologues or realistic military drama. You are here to kick doors open, dive through bullets, steal vehicles, destroy bosses, and watch beans get absolutely deleted in slow motion.
A different run every time
What makes Killer Bean stand out is not only the stupidly brilliant idea of playing as a bean in a shooter, but the way the game mixes that with roguelite structure. Each campaign is built around procedural islands, changing missions, random weapons, different enemies, factions, loot, skills, bosses, and vehicles. One run might push you into messy gunfights against Bad Beans, while another might have you dealing with mercenaries, pirate commandos, or other weird threats across the map.
The gameplay jumps between first-person and third-person action, which gives it a nice amount of flexibility. You can blast enemies with guns, use bullet time, fight in close quarters, drive around, collect new gear, and slowly build Killer Bean into a bigger problem for everyone else. There are also extra modes like Battle Arena and The Party, which sound exactly as ridiculous as they should.
In some ways, the roguelite chaos brings to mind something like Risk of Rain 2, especially with the idea of each run turning into its own strange disaster. Killer Bean is much sillier, of course, but that same “one more run” energy is clearly part of the appeal.
That said, this is still an Early Access game, and you can feel it. There are rough edges, clunky moments, and systems that still need more time in the oven. But the idea is strong, the personality is loud, and the whole thing has the kind of weird charm you do not get from safer shooters.
