Worms Rumble reinvents the classic formula of the series

We told you about it at the beginning of March, Team 17 has planned to release a new installment of the Worms series this year. The announcement was made via Twitter with a short video providing a retrospective of the games in the license. This teaser was accompanied by a message saying that "the Worms will return in 2020, as you have never seen them before" and mentioned new ways of playing.

The cult series offers mostly 2D sets and turn-based gameplay, even though episodes like Worms Ultimate Mayhem have abandoned this scheme, and that is exactly what the new game, which has just been revealed, will do too.

With the name of Worms Rumble, the new installment in the series will offer a fairly new approach to the series. The most important novelty is the disappearance of the turn-based gameplay in favor of battles in real time. It's a huge change from the other games in the series. Worms Rumble will have two main game modes, Deathmatch and Battle Royale, for up to 32 players, and it will obviously feature the largest maps ever seen in the series. Team 17 specified that these two modes will be available at launch, which suggests that others may be added later. On the other hand, the Lab, will allow you to take part in various challenges and seasonal events. Another novelty of Worms Rumble is that it will be possible to personalize your Worms with various accessories, which you can unlock by gaining XP or with an in-game currency.

Finally, another major change concerns the maps. One of the main characteristics of the series is its destructible environment. The trailer suggests that this will not be the case in Worms Rumble, but Team 17 has clarified this point by stating that only certain parts of the maps will be.

Worms Rumble has already generated a lot of reactions, and it seems that the opinions are mixed between the players who are delighted with this renewal of the formula and those who hate it. We will soon know more about the game, since the beta on PC will take place from July 15 to 20. You can register at this address if you want to participate.

Worms Rumble will be released on PC, PS4, and PS5 this year. No specific date has yet been announced yet, but the game will offer crossplay between different platforms.
