    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the warmth from a campfire to thaw frozen food, and if so, how quickly does the thawing process happen compared to just waiting?
Yes, campfires can thaw frozen food. The thawing speed is significantly faster when using a campfire compared to natural thawing, the exact time depends on the food item and the fire's intensity.
How does the 'Sustenance' stat interact with the 'Exposure' stat in the harsh winter environment, and does a higher Sustenance level directly increase my resistance to the cold?
Sustenance affects your resistance to the cold indirectly. A character with higher Sustenance is healthier, which in turn slightly increases their resilience against the effects of Exposure. However, Sustenance does not directly provide cold resistance; it primarily impacts overall health and stamina.
If my character's body temperature drops to critical levels, can I still perform actions like crafting or gathering resources, or are there severe limitations?
At critical body temperatures, actions are severely limited. Crafting and gathering become extremely slow and inefficient, and the character will frequently pause to shiver, significantly increasing the time required for tasks.
Are there different types of shelters, and do they offer varying degrees of protection against the Exposure stat? If so, what are the key differences?
Yes, different shelters provide varying degrees of protection. Basic shelters offer minimal protection, while advanced shelters made of better materials offer higher insulation and greatly reduce the rate at which Exposure increases.
How does the 'Wind Chill' factor affect the rate at which my Exposure level rises, and are there ways to mitigate its effects besides shelter?
Wind Chill dramatically increases the rate of Exposure buildup. You can mitigate its effects by wearing appropriate clothing, finding sheltered locations (even behind large rocks or trees), and by using fire to warm yourself.
Can I relocate a campfire once it's built, or is its location permanent? If relocation is possible, what are the limitations?
No, campfires are not permanent and can be relocated. Once built, the campfire can be picked up, but it will consume resources and time.
Is it possible to become permanently incapacitated due to Exposure, and what are the signs leading up to that state?
Yes, it is possible to become permanently incapacitated due to Exposure. Signs include slowing movement, blurred vision, shivering, and the gradual depletion of health until the character succumbs to the cold. The player must get warm to stop this.
Does the type of fuel used in a campfire impact the warmth it provides or the duration it burns, and are some fuel sources more efficient than others?
Yes, the type of fuel used in a campfire does impact both the warmth it provides and the duration it burns. Wood offers a balance, while certain specialized fuels may burn hotter or longer, though might be harder to find.
How does the 'Stamina' stat interact with cold survival? Does running, for example, increase my Exposure rate, and if so, how significantly?
Stamina is indirectly linked to cold survival. Running increases exertion, causing your character to breathe harder and sweat. This will cause the Exposure rate to increase more rapidly.
Does the game feature any dynamic weather events, such as blizzards, and how do these impact the Exposure mechanic and general survival challenges?
Yes, blizzards significantly increase the speed at which Exposure increases, severely limiting visibility and making it harder to find shelter or resources. Blizzards add a layer of unpredictability and make survival much more difficult.
