Intel unveils XeSS 3 featuring powerful Multi-Frame Generation tech
Intel has significantly enhanced its XeSS technology, moving beyond AMD's FSR and bringing it in line with Nvidia's DLSS by introducing XeSS Multi-Frame Generation. This upgrade allows XeSS to generate three frames for each traditionally rendered frame, resulting in a substantial increase in framerate.
At the Intel Tech Tour 2025 event, the company unveiled XeSS 3, a revamped version of its AI-powered upscaling technology. Along with it, we saw the introduction of XeSS-MFG (Multi-Frame Generation), which can create multiple intermediate frames simultaneously to provide smoother motion and an improved perceived framerate.
Intel's approach closely resembles the method used by NVIDIA’s DLSS, which separates upscaling from frame synthesis. Until recently, Intel did not have its own frame generation feature, but it has now advanced directly to a multi-frame strategy. This leap could give Intel a competitive edge over AMD, which still employs single-frame interpolation and trails NVIDIA in this area.

With this update, Intel has improved one of the three foundational components of its XeSS 2 technology. Now, XeSS offers options for generating 2x, 3x, and 4x frames. Even better, this feature is compatible with all Intel GPUs that currently support frame generation. Another advantage of XeSS 3 MFG is that its application programming interface (API) remains consistent, ensuring that all games compatible with XeSS 2 will also work with XeSS 3 upon the release of Panther Lake. At present, nearly 50 games are compatible with XeSS 2, so a wide selection of titles will likely support XeSS 3 MFG once the technology becomes available.

Many details regarding XeSS 3 are still under wraps, including its release date and additional features. The technology is anticipated to launch alongside Intel’s Panther Lake processors, which will be the first to feature integrated graphics based on the Xe3 architecture.
With Intel’s XeSS 3 technology set to provide even smoother framerates and clearer visuals, gamers now have more opportunities than ever to enhance their gaming experience. The Intel ARC B580 is designed to fully utilize XeSS 3, offering remarkable performance, sharp image quality, and excellent value for contemporary gaming.
