Ubisoft announces a Splinter Cell remake
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a cult game for all those who enjoy action games focusing on stealth. The adventures of Sam Fisher have made him an iconic character in the world of video games, and the image where he appears wearing night-vision goggles is easily recognizable for any fan. Developer Ubisoft launched several games after the original, but the first Splinter Cell is still one of the fans' favorites. Following the current trend of making remakes and remasters of classics, Ubisoft has decided to bring back Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell in a modern form thanks to the Snowdrop Engine, which is currently used for other upcoming projects including a new Star Wars game.
Splinter Cell remake announcement
Since it is a full remake, a big concern about the new game is whether it will be completely different from the original. One of the producers of the new project, Matt West, gives us some insight into the type of game the new Splinter Cell remake will be:
"Although we're still in the very earliest stages of development, what we're trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity. So, as we're building it from the ground up, we're going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world."
Creative director Chris Auty has also confirmed that the new Splinter Cell will maintain a heavy focus on stealth mechanics, like its predecessor:
"It's important for us to preserve the sense of mastery by supporting players who observe the situations, make their plan, use their gadgets, and outsmart the enemy creatively to deal with the challenges they are presented with. Ideally, they end up coming out on the other side with no one having realized you were even there. That's the essence of Splinter Cell."
There is still a lot to learn about the Splinter Cell remake, and Ubisoft will be revealing more information in the upcoming months. Meanwhile, you can immerse yourself in Sam Fisher's world with the other installments in the Splinter Cell series, including Blacklist, Conviction, and Chaos Theory.
