This Week's Video Game Releases - May 2026 (Week 19)
Release date

The gaming industry is entering another busy release week, with a wide variety of titles arriving across multiple genres between May 4 and May 10, 2026. The arrival of all those games will happen in just a couple of days, so you will have plenty of time to prepare for them. Although there are not many big releases, there are multiple options for those looking for new experiences.

May 4 - 10 releases

One of the most significant launches of the week is Age of Empires IV: Yue Fei's Legacy, releasing on May 7. The expansion introduces players to the story of Yue Fei, the celebrated Chinese military commander known for his role during the Southern Song dynasty. Alongside a new campaign, the expansion is expected to add fresh gameplay systems and additional content for multiplayer fans, continuing Microsoft's long-term support of the strategy franchise.

Also arriving on May 7 is Mixtape, a narrative-focused adventure that combines music, friendship, and youthful nostalgia. The game follows a group of friends during a final road trip together, blending cinematic storytelling with stylized gameplay sequences inspired by memories and music culture. Early impressions have praised its visual presentation and emotional tone, making it one of the more distinctive indie releases of the month.

Nintendo players will also see the launch of Kill It With Fire 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 on May 7. The sequel builds on the chaotic formula of the original game, once again tasking players with eliminating spiders using an increasingly ridiculous arsenal of tools and weapons. Expanded levels and new multiplayer features are expected to make the follow-up even more unpredictable than its predecessor.

Meanwhile, Will: Follow the Light is set to debut the same day, offering a more atmospheric and story-driven experience. The game focuses on exploration and survival in isolated northern environments, emphasizing mood, navigation, and environmental storytelling over fast-paced action. Its grounded approach stands in contrast to many of the week's louder releases.

Indie RPG fans are also preparing for the Early Access launch of Alabaster Dawn on May 7. Created by the developers behind CrossCode, the action RPG combines pixel-art visuals with fluid combat and large interconnected environments. Many players have been anticipating the title for its ambitious blend of retro aesthetics and modern gameplay systems.

Rounding out the week is Pax Autocratica, launching on May 8. The strategy title places players in control of an authoritarian government, challenging them to balance political power, economic management, and diplomatic influence. While more niche than some of the week’s higher-profile releases, the game has already generated discussion among grand strategy enthusiasts interested in complex political simulations.

Taken together, this week's releases showcase a wide variety of genres. Ranging from deep strategy mechanics, emotional storytelling and cooperative chaos to experimental simulation design, the coming days offer something for nearly every audience.
