This week's game Launches on PC, PS5, Xbox: August 2026 (Week 35)

August is making one last attempt to offer you a variety of interesting options so you can enjoy playing videogames. The final full week of the month brings a particularly eclectic collection of releases, ranging from supernatural adventures and tactical RPGs to anime football, classic stealth action, and a new Star Wars strategy game. Most of the action arrives on August 27, which is shaping up to be the busiest day of the week by some distance.

August 24 - 30 releases

The first game to arrive is 1666: Amsterdam, launching on August 25. The project takes players back to 17th-century Amsterdam for a dark adventure with supernatural elements. Its historical setting gives it plenty of room to mix atmospheric exploration with a much less wholesome version of the Dutch capital. If your idea of sightseeing involves avoiding demons rather than admiring canals, this one might be worth watching.

On August 26, Brigandine Abyss joins the party. This tactical RPG is designed for players who enjoy turning a map into a giant strategic headache. Expect turn-based battles, armies to manage, characters to develop, and plenty of decisions where the consequences of your brilliant plan may become apparent several turns later.

Then comes August 27, and apparently every publisher agreed that this was the day to offer something new.

Fans of turn-based strategy can immediately dive into the Star Wars universe with Star Wars Zero Company, launching on August 27. Developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment, the game puts players in charge of an unconventional squad during the final stages of the Clone Wars. Expect tactical battles, squad customization, character relationships, and enough blaster fire to make the average Jedi consider taking a vacation.

Another notable release is Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which finally brings Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to modern platforms. For years, MGS4 has been the odd one out in the series because its original PlayStation 3 release kept it trapped in a technological time capsule. That changes this week, with the collection also bringing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel into the modern era.

The same day also sees the arrival of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, which expands the universe established by A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem. The new adventure takes the franchise in a different historical direction while retaining its focus on dramatic storytelling, dangerous environments, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you wonder why anyone in this universe ever leaves the house.

If your preferred form of sporting entertainment involves screaming special moves while playing football, Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is also landing on August 27. The sequel brings the thrilling action of the Captain Tsubasa anime and manga to another round of spectacular football battles. Normal football rules are clearly invited to remain somewhere far away.

Retro enthusiasts have something to celebrate too, with Aggelos 2 arriving on the same day. The sequel continues the series' affection for classic 2D action-platformers, offering another colorful adventure for anyone who believes that modern games could occasionally benefit from fewer menus and more things to hit with a sword.

The August 27 avalanche doesn't stop there. Lou's Lagoon is also scheduled to launch, offering a more laid-back alternative to tactical warfare, supernatural horrors, and intergalactic conflicts. It should provide a welcome change of pace for players who would rather explore a colorful world than spend several hours wondering why their carefully planned squad just got annihilated.

That leaves us with a remarkably diverse group of releases. 1666: Amsterdam opens the week with supernatural intrigue, Brigandine Abyss brings tactical strategy on August 26, and then August 27 unleashes practically everything at once. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 finally gives MGS4 a new home, Star Wars Zero Company turns the Clone Wars into a tactical playground, and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy expands one of gaming's most atmospheric historical franchises. Throw in Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, Aggelos 2, and Lou's Lagoon, and there's enough variety here to keep almost every kind of player occupied.
