Retailer report: AMD tops sales as 16GB GPUs take over the market

Retailer report shows 16GB GPUs account for most sales with AMD at the top

Mindfactory ranks among the leading tech retailers in Germany, and it serves not only as an excellent point for tech purchases but also as a platform that displays its sales statistics. The most recent report offers valuable insights into how consumers in Germany are making their choices based on their spending, highlighting the graphics cards that PC gamers prefer.

This trend carries on from earlier months, showing that 16GB models continue to lead in sales figures. The data for week 33 (August 11 – August 17) indicates that 16GB memory cards constitute 79.3% of the sales, with over 2,010 units sold. In contrast, the next category, the 12GB cards, sold 250 units and represent 9.9% of the week’s total sales.

The 8GB models account for just 6.5% of the overall sales, corresponding to 165 units sold. One notable trend is that many benchmarks indicate a significant performance advantage of the 16GB versions over the 8GB ones. They are better suited as long-term investments, particularly now, as new AAA game releases are increasingly demanding on GPU memory.

Regarding sales figures, the RX 9070 XT captures 27% of the market, with 685 units sold, while the RX 9060 XT follows in second place, with around half as many at 14.5% or 370 units. Nvidia ranks third with the RTX 5070 Ti at 12.6% and 320 units sold, closely followed by the RTX 5080 at 12.0% with 305 units.

It's important to remember that these sales figures reflect the performance of a single retailer in a specific region and do not represent global sales. Nonetheless, they effectively illustrate the popularity of 16GB graphics cards. In today's gaming landscape, 8GB of VRAM is insufficient for many contemporary PC games, and gamers are increasingly aware of this. Consequently, the majority of gamers are opting for graphics cards equipped with 16GB of VRAM. This issue is likely to escalate as PC games grow more sophisticated.

From the above data, it is clear that AMD’s reliable and preferred RX 9070 XT from the RDNA 4 series stands out. Equipped with 16GB of VRAM, advanced RDNA 4 technology, and AI-enhanced efficiency, it is crafted to manage the latest titles at impressive detail while providing enough capability for future demands.
