Remedy Unveils Major Outbreak Update for FBC: Firebreak

Remedy prepares major Outbreak update for FBC: Firebreak

Remedy Entertainment is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its co-op action game, FBC: Firebreak, with a major content drop scheduled for late September. This update, called "Outbreak," was announced last month and it aims to address player feedback since the game’s launch in June and revitalize interest with new content, improved systems, and deeper customization.

Since its release, FBC: Firebreak has struggled to maintain momentum, with many players citing steep learning curves and a lack of early-game clarity. Remedy has been quick to respond with a series of smaller patches, improving progression pacing, rebalancing in-game economy, and refining audio, UI, and stability issues. These updates were designed to enhance the first-hour experience, a critical point where a large percentage of new players were dropping off.

What’s coming in the “Outbreak” update

The upcoming September update promises the biggest changes yet. A brand-new onboarding system will introduce a fully playable tutorial mission, along with better in-game guidance to help players understand the core mechanics and lore of the spinoff to the Control universe.

Combat is also getting a shake-up. A revamped weapon mod system will replace generic upgrades, allowing players to tailor their arsenal with meaningful enhancements. Additionally, three heavy weapons will be added to diversify the combat experience right from the start.

The centerpiece of "Outbreak" is a new handcrafted Job mission, featuring a multi-zone map, new enemy types, unique status effects, and fresh environmental challenges. Alongside this, the Job system itself is being redesigned. Remedy is removing Clearance and Corruption levels in favor of more varied mission structures and modifiers that emphasize replayability.

Matchmaking, which has been a point of frustration for many players, will see major improvements to ensure smoother team-building and mission flow. Existing maps and missions will also receive updates to introduce greater randomization and diversity, keeping repeat play sessions engaging.

Looking Ahead to “Blackout” and Beyond

The September update is just the first step in Remedy’s larger post-launch roadmap. A second major content drop, codenamed "Blackout," is set for winter. It will introduce a darker-themed Job, additional enemies, and more weapons and gear, along with free seasonal content and cosmetic packs. Remedy has emphasized that these cosmetics will not affect core gameplay, ensuring all major systems and content updates remain free.

While FBC: Firebreak launched to modest player numbers (its peak concurrent users on Steam barely crossed 2,000) the upcoming overhaul signals Remedy’s commitment to turning things around. With improved onboarding, better combat systems, and new mission content, the September update could be a turning point for a game with plenty of potential.
