ASRock debuts AMD’s Radeon RX 9050 with 4GB and 8GB memory options

ASRock may have just let the cat out of the bag. The company has quietly added two unannounced Radeon RX 9050 graphics cards to its website, giving us an early look at what appears to be AMD's next entry-level RDNA 4 GPU. The listings, first spotted by VideoCardz, reveal both 8GB and 4GB versions of the card, although AMD has yet to officially acknowledge either model.

The RX 9050 is positioned below the Radeon RX 9060 and RX 9060 XT, making it the most affordable RDNA 4 desktop GPU we've seen so far. Both versions come equipped with 16 Compute Units, or 1,024 stream processors, which is exactly half the shader count of the RX 9060 XT. Despite its budget positioning, the card still supports AMD's latest RDNA 4 features, including third-generation ray tracing, second-generation AI accelerators, and PCIe 5.0.

The biggest difference between the two models is memory. The 8GB version uses a 128-bit memory bus, while the 4GB model drops to a 64-bit interface, cutting memory bandwidth in half. Both cards use 18Gbps GDDR6 memory and are listed with a 1,920MHz game clock and a boost clock of up to 2,600MHz.

The 4GB model is already raising eyebrows. Modern PC games are becoming increasingly demanding, and even 8GB GPUs are starting to show their limits in some newer titles. With that in mind, it's easy to see why many believe the 4GB version could end up as an OEM-only product rather than something AMD sells directly to consumers.

Both Challenger models feature the same display outputs, offering two DisplayPort connectors, one HDMI port, and a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. Beyond that, AMD hasn't said whether the RX 9050 will receive a full retail launch or remain exclusive to pre-built systems.

Reports currently point to a $279 (€239 / £207) price tag for the 8GB model. While that feels a little steep for a budget graphics card, today's GPU market is very different from a few years ago. Rising memory costs have pushed prices across the board, with the Radeon RX 9060 XT's original $349 MSRP (€299 / £259) now often landing closer to $450-$480 (around €386-€412 / £334-£356) at retail.

AMD hasn't released a 4GB desktop GPU since the Radeon RX 6400 back in 2022, and considering how much VRAM modern games demand, it's hard not to see the move as a step backward, even if the card ends up targeting pre-built PCs instead of DIY builders.
