Diamond Rapids Xeon CPU Could Feature 192 P-Cores, 500W TDP
Next year, Intel plans to launch new Xeon CPU models under the "Diamond Rapids" name. A recently leaked slide has revealed several important specifications for Intel's upcoming "Xeon 7" CPU range.
To begin with, Intel's new Diamond Rapids CPUs are expected to include as many as 192 CPU cores distributed across four tiles. These processors will all employ Intel's P-Core (Performance Core) architecture. Additionally, these CPUs may have thermal design power (TDP) ratings reaching 500 watts.
The Diamond Rapids system-on-chip (SoC) is slated to utilize Intel's 18A lithography process and provide support for eight or sixteen DRAM channels. Furthermore, these CPUs will be compatible with PCIe 6.0, a feature that will also be present in AMD’s forthcoming Venice CPUs.
It is rumored that Intel's new Diamond Rapids CPUs will employ a new LGA 9324 socket design. This socket will be part of Intel's anticipated "Oak Stream" platform, facilitating enhancements such as PCIe 6.0 connectivity and additional DRAM channel support.

Other features of the Diamond Rapids include enhanced AMX efficiency, compatibility with native TF32 and FP8 data types, and the ability to support both 2-socket and 4-socket hardware setups. Intel's next-generation Diamond Rapids CPUs are expected to debut in 2026. These processors will rival AMD’s Zen 6 Venice CPUs, which are projected to offer core counts of up to 256.
It's unclear when in 2026 Intel's Diamond Rapids processors will launch, especially since Intel hasn't formally announced their tape-in or power-on, despite a slide indicating a 2026 release.
The information leaked about the Intel Diamond Rapids CPU suggests promising advancements in high-performance computing. However, for gamers and power users seeking top-tier performance today—not in the future—the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is currently excelling. Equipped with advanced 3D V-Cache technology and leading gaming efficiency, it is the processor designed for the present.
