Hades II just announced a technical test

The name Hades is beloved in the gaming community, especially among fans of the Rogue-like genre. Following the announcement of Hades II at The Game Awards 2022, many fans have eagerly awaited the game's release date. In a recent post on X/Twitter, Supergiant Games announced the upcoming Technical Test version of Hades II.
 

The primary purpose of this technical test is to ensure a smoother experience for those selected for the upcoming Early Access version later this year. "We're conducting the Hades II Technical Test prior to our Early Access launch to help us find and solve any technical issues we might have missed thus far, to ensure anyone who tries Hades II in Early Access can have a smooth play experience from the start," Supergiant Games said on their website.

The Technical Test will include content from the game's first area: "If you played the original game, imagine a version where you couldn't get past Tartarus even if you vanquished its guardian."

How to participate in the Technical Test

The process is straightforward; you simply need to visit the game's Steam page, click on the "Request Access" button. If you're invited, an email from Steam will be sent to you with instructions on how to download the game. The Technical Test will start with a small number of participants but will gradually expand, so if you're not invited initially, there's no need to worry; you still have a chance later on.Their processs boil down to "invite some players, fix any problems they run into, invite more players, and so on."

We still don't know the duration of this trial version, as Supergiant Games says it could be "longer than a week, shorter than a month." You can expect the Early Access version to be released later in the second quarter of 2024, with the duration of this version depending on the length of the Technical Test.

In Hades II, you'll play as Melinoë, the princess of the Underworld and Zagreus' sister. Based on what we know about the gameplay so far, the game will feature melee combat mechanics similar to the original, but Melinoë will be able to use mana-consuming spells and can collect materials while moving through the Underworld to exchange for boons and other items from special rooms. The original game Hades was known for its engaging and unique gameplay in the rogue-like genre, even nominated for the Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020.
