Gearbox is working on a new Borderlands game
Rumor has it that the new Borderlands will be some sort of spin-off and not a new installment in the main series. Also, there are rumors saying that Gearbox would not be the one in charge of developing this game and that the studio would only be assisting some others to create the new Borderlands. Even though Gearbox has already launched several DLC for Borderlands 3 it would seem a bit too early to release a sequel, especially if we consider the huge amount of content available for Borderlands 2 via DLC. But it seems that the rumors may be partially true according to what Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford has commented on the matter via Twitter.
I am told of rumors that Gearbox is "assisting" or "co-developing" another Borderlands game (or a new spin-off game). These rumors are NOT accurate. Gearbox is lead dev of any future games in the Borderlands franchise (or any Borderlands adjacent games) with no co-development.
We are definitely working on some amazing stuff that, I hope, will surprise and delight you. Plug: if anyone out there has Skills-To-Pay-Bills and wants to get in on some Borderlands action, we're working on the big one :)
If you are a fan of the series, you probably already know that Pitchford has a long story of saying exactly the opposite of what will happen, but if we take his word for granted, it seems that Gearbox is in charge of the development of whatever Borderlands game is coming next. Of course, nothing has been said about the type of game that it will be.
Nothing stays secret for too long in the world of video games, so we should have more info on this matter in the future. Meanwhile, you can have fun fighting against the Children of the Vault in Borderlands 3, one of the best games in the series.
