GameStop’s Infamous Switch 2-Breaking Stapler Is Up for Sale

The console was offered at various third-party retailers, such as Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, and Target, many of which held midnight launch events to commemorate the release. Although the Switch's successor has seen a fair amount of popularity among gamers in recent weeks, at least one unit became notably infamous on launch day.

In June, a GameStop employee from a New York City store mistakenly stapled the receipt to the box of a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2. While this may seem harmless in most instances, the staple pins ended up damaging the console's display, causing distress for the buyer. In response to this notorious incident, GameStop has chosen to turn the mishap into a positive opportunity by auctioning off several items related to the event.

As highlighted in the X (formerly Twitter) post below, GameStop is listing the following items on eBay:

• The Black Stapler  
• The First Stapled Nintendo Switch 2  
• The Box  
• The Staple  

The company is clearly enjoying the situation, as they have included a certificate of authenticity signed by the CEO of GameStop. Moreover, the certificate notes that the infamous staple pin has been "carefully extracted and preserved" and is now described as a "tiny, twisted piece of GameStop lore."

It should be noted that the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This is likely one of the reasons the listing has gained significant popularity on eBay, as collectors are eager to own a unique piece of history while contributing to a good cause. As of now, the highest bid has reached nearly $108,895. It will be intriguing to see what the final bid will be once the auction concludes in about six days. Wealthy bidders often go to great lengths to acquire a significant piece of history.
