Gamer’s rejoice! China lifts ban on consoles

This week the Wall Street Journal reported that China's Ministry of Culture released a statement with the news that game consoles can now be manufactured and sold freely in the Asian country. Previously it was only permitted at the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, effectively choking a market estimated at 22,2 billion just this year.

The ban was put in place in 2000, with China quoting " concern of the potential harm to its younger generation " and of "threatening state security, damaging the nation's glory, disturbing social order and infringing on others' legitimate rights ."

Having been limited previously to only PC and Mobile phone games, companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft expect to finally tap into a huge market. There is still in place the countries' censorship for games, which will limit the games that will be available, tho.
