Epic Games Store is giving away Mindcop and Shogun Showdown for free

Epic Games’ latest freebies mix mystery with turn-based roguelike action

Thursday means another round of free games on the Epic Games Store, and this week's giveaway brings two very different experiences for PC players to pick up. The previous freebies, Luftrausers and Astral Ascent, have now left the promotion, making way for Mindcop and Shogun Showdown. As usual, both games can be claimed at no cost and kept permanently in your Epic Games Store library, provided you redeem them before the current giveaway expires.

First up is Mindcop, a nonlinear detective adventure built around a murder investigation. You take on the role of a police officer with just five days to identify the killer hiding among the residents of a small town. Getting to the truth involves more than simply questioning suspects, as the game lets you enter people's minds through a dedicated puzzle sequence to uncover information they would rather keep hidden.

Time is one of the most important resources during the investigation. Exploring locations, interviewing suspects, searching for evidence, and using your ability to read minds all consume time, meaning you won't be able to investigate everything in a single playthrough. Your decisions can also change how the case develops, giving Mindcop a branching structure that encourages different approaches.

If detective work isn't your thing, Shogun Showdown offers a very different challenge. Developed by Roboatino, this strategy roguelike combines deck-building mechanics with turn-based combat and a distinctive pixel-art presentation inspired by feudal Japan.

Battles take place on a grid, with enemies telegraphing their intentions through signals that you need to interpret. Moving, waiting, and attacking at the right moment is essential, particularly as increasingly dangerous enemies and bosses enter the picture. Between encounters, you can upgrade and combine abilities, allowing you to experiment with different builds and find strategies that work with your chosen playstyle.

Whether you'd rather put your detective skills to the test or carefully plan your way through turn-based battles, you can add both games to your library without spending a cent. Mindcop and Shogun Showdown are free to claim until September 24 on the Epic Games Store. Once the giveaway ends, another pair of games will take their place, continuing Epic's weekly rotation of freebies.
