Battlefield 2042: the game's AI will be impressive
We told you about it last week, Battlefield 2042 made a big impression at EA Play Live with the announcement of Battlefield Portal. Gamers who were eagerly awaiting to learn more about the next installment in the series were quite satisfied with what turns out to be more than just a mode. This new feature for the game will offer a host of customisation options for creating custom games and sharing them with the community.
DICE is not hiding the fact that it's aiming quite high with Battlefield 2042, in particular with Battlefield Portal, but there are still things to discover about other features in the game ahead of its release. We can discover a bit more about the game's AI in an interview with Justin Wiebe, Battlefield 2042's senior design director, given to VG247.
The interview is quite long and touches on various topics, but the one that gets the most attention is the game's AI, which seems to be at a level never seen before in a video game:
“We’ve tried to put a lot of effort into making them play just like a player would. So it would be really hard for people to tell the difference between an AI and a real human player because they will run around, they will drive vehicles, they will pick each other up, they will drop [each other] off at objective locations and things like that – it’s a very intelligent system. And then you can tweak and tune some of the things they are and aren’t allowed to do, including how difficult they are to play against.”
This sounds extremely promising, although it remains to be seen if the reality will live up to these statements. In any case, this raises the expectations of the players towards Battlefield 2042 another notch.
We can't wait to see more of Battlefield 2042 with new gameplay videos, but also the open beta of the game that should take place in September. In the meantime, you can find the full interview on the official VG247 website, and to find the best prices for Battlefield 2042, you can check out our comparison site.
