ASUS unveils upgraded ROG Xbox Ally X20 to mark ROG’s 20th anniversary

At Computex 2026, ASUS celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Republic of Gamers brand by unveiling a range of special-edition products, including the new ROG Xbox Ally X20. Designed as a premium collector’s edition handheld, the X20 combines upgraded hardware with a distinctive black-and-gold aesthetic inspired by the early days of gaming hardware.

One of the biggest upgrades comes in the form of its display. Unlike previous ROG Ally models, the Xbox Ally X20 features a 7.4-inch OLED Nebula HDR panel. The screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision, and a rapid 0.2ms response time, offering a significant visual improvement over earlier models. ASUS has also equipped the handheld with dual TMR (Tunneling Magnetoresistant) magnetic analog sticks, which are designed to eliminate concerns about stick drift.

Under the hood, the Xbox Ally X20 is powered by AMD’s latest Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory. The system also supports AMD Auto SR upscaling technology, helping deliver sharper visuals and improved gaming performance across both Game Pass and PC titles.

Storage comes in the form of a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. While some users may wish for more capacity out of the box, ASUS continues to support internal SSD upgrades, making future storage expansion relatively straightforward.

The design is equally noteworthy. ASUS has opted for a translucent black chassis accented with gold details and a commemorative 20th Anniversary ROG badge on the rear. The retro-inspired look pays tribute to the translucent hardware designs that were popular around the time ROG launched in 2006.

As a limited-edition product, ASUS is positioning the Xbox Ally X20 as a collector’s item. Adding to its exclusivity, each unit will include the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses. These matching black-and-gold AR glasses connect via USB-C and feature micro-OLED displays capable of projecting a virtual 171-inch screen. ASUS claims the display covers 95% of the user’s field of view while offering a 240Hz refresh rate and an extremely fast 0.01ms response time, making them well-suited for gaming and media consumption.

ASUS has yet to announce pricing or a release date, but given the upgraded specifications, bundled AR glasses, and limited-edition status, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is expected to sit well above the price of the current ROG Xbox Ally X.
