Abermore gives you 18 days to rob the king

It’s been a long time since we saw a steampunk stealth game, but that’s what we’re getting with Abermore. A first-person “sneaker” RPG developed by Sold Out Games and published by Four Circle Interactive, Abermore is set in some kind of neo-Edwardian alternate world. Have a look at the trailer below:

Robbing the royals

From the game footage, Abermore has a strong resemblance to the Thief series and its spiritual successor, Dishonored. You take the role of an infamous thief known as The Unhanged Man, a Robin Hood-style outlaw who has 18 days to prepare for a big heist on the king’s palace. The Unhanged Man isn’t just a master at stealth, like Garret from Thief, but he also has access to mystical powers, much like Corvo in Dishonored

But Abermore also incorporates rogue-like elements that make it distinct from these games. Each level is procedurally-generated, possibly with randomly generated jobs and characters. How it will be applied remains to be seen. But what’s clear is that you will meet some "weird and wonderful characters” who will make your final heist a bit easier with their special abilities, so it’s worth doing their quests to recruit them.

“Every campaign is unique, daisy chaining together robberies, across countless level variations. Each new day provides new stories to stumble into, spoils to sell on the Blackmarket, and potential collaborators to help you as you prepare for the ultimate score: "The Feast of the Lucky Few."

This Feast takes place in the Royal Palace, and based on the video, it’s swarming with burglar alarms, surveillance cameras, and terrifying mechanical guards eager to slice a thief in half. Thankfully, you have a few supernatural tricks to even the odds. Using Tarot cards blessed by Lady Luck, you can gain up to 14 magical abilities like moving in silence or protecting yourself in a fight.

You will need to use the next 18 days to prepare for your main heist. Rob the rich, use the money to buy better equipment from the Black Market, and hone your skills with each tool. Most of all, be ready to improvise in case things go wrong. If it means smashing a dinner plate over a guard’s head to knock them out, then all the better.
