Civilization 7 is now in development

Last Friday, Firaxis Games and Take-Two Interactive announced via press release that they are making the next Civilization game. That’s right—we are getting Civilization 7. This development comes six years after Civilization 6, which has carried on in popularity thanks to several expansions.

As of yet, we have no release date for Civilization 7 as the project has just begun. That said, it will have plenty of expectations to live up to, considering that its immediate predecessor sold over 65 Million copies, apart from releasing two DLCs, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, as well as numerous add-ons.

Shuffling the Ranks

Along with this announcement came the news that longtime Firaxis developer Jake Solomon was departing the studio, while Ed Beach will be continuing on as creative director for Civilization 7. Beach previously served as creative director for Civilization 6 and was a designer for Civilization 5

Additionally, Firaxis Games also announced that Heather Haven will be taking over for Steve Martin as Chief Operating Officer. Martin has served as CEO for the past 25 years in Firaxis. It’ll be interesting to see the impact of these changes on upcoming games.

In her statement, Hazen said:

“I’m lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world. In addition, we will continue to support Marvel’s Midnight Suns with post-launch content, and explore new creative projects for our teams.”
