Microsoft unlocks free Ubisoft PC copies for eligible Xbox game owners

Xbox players can soon access 13 Ubisoft PC games without buying them again

Microsoft and Ubisoft are expanding their partnership with another feature designed to bring Xbox and Windows gaming closer together. Alongside a broader selection of Ubisoft content in the Xbox PC app, the two companies have introduced a new benefit for players who own Ubisoft games digitally on Xbox consoles.

The most significant change is a new console-to-PC entitlement program. Players who already own eligible Ubisoft games on Xbox will automatically receive access to the PC versions through Ubisoft Connect at no additional cost. Microsoft says the rollout will happen gradually, with qualifying users expected to receive access by August 4.

A total of 13 games are included in the initial wave of supported titles:

In addition to the new ownership benefit, Ubisoft has expanded its catalog inside the Xbox PC app. Players can now purchase more premium editions, expansions, and downloadable content for Ubisoft games directly through Microsoft's storefront, including major releases such as Assassin's Creed Shadows and Rainbow Six Siege.

There are a few limitations to the new program. The feature only works in one direction, meaning PC owners won't receive Xbox console versions of eligible games. Microsoft also notes that while most premium editions and downloadable content will carry over, consumable items such as in-game currency and other one-time-use purchases generally won't transfer unless the game includes full cross-progression support.

The announcement follows another recent move by Microsoft to further connect the Xbox and PC ecosystems. Earlier this month, the company introduced Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC, allowing four original Xbox games to run natively on Windows for the first time. Together, the two initiatives signal Microsoft's continued effort to blur the line between console and PC ownership.

Players who already own any of the supported Ubisoft titles on Xbox don't need to buy them again. Once the rollout reaches their account, the games should automatically appear in Ubisoft Connect. Microsoft recommends updating the Ubisoft Connect client to the latest version to ensure the new entitlement is detected as soon as it becomes available.
