Steam Controller reportedly stocked by Valve ahead of Machine release
Valve first revealed its upcoming hardware lineup late last year, including the new Steam Frame headset, Steam Machine gaming PC, and a next-generation Steam Controller. All three were originally planned for a Q1 2026 launch, but ongoing memory and storage shortages forced the company to delay the releases to a later point in 2026.
While the delay is disappointing - especially given the Steam Machine’s potential to shake up the compact gaming PC market, much like the Steam Deck did for handhelds - there may be some movement on at least one of these devices. According to Valve insider and data miner Brad Lynch, the company appears to have recently received a large shipment labeled as “Wireless PC Controller,” suggesting that the new Steam Controller could be nearing launch.
It’s not entirely clear whether these units are intended for standalone sale, bundled with the Steam Machine, or designed for use with the Steam Frame headset. However, the controller itself is shaping up to be a compelling accessory for PC gamers and Steam Deck users alike, especially those who connect their handhelds to external displays.

The new Steam Controller reportedly features a symmetrical stick layout alongside dual trackpads, similar to the Steam Deck. It also includes high-end magnetic thumbsticks using TMR technology, HD rumble, and a capacitive touch gyro for enhanced control precision. Additionally, it comes with a wireless puck that functions as both a receiver and charging dock, with support for USB and Bluetooth connectivity. A dedicated Steam button allows quick access to the overlay, store, and system navigation, much like Big Picture Mode.
As for the Steam Machine, its release window has become increasingly uncertain. Initially expected in early 2026, Valve later shifted the timeline to the first half of the year due to supply constraints. More recent updates have pushed the launch into a broader 2026 window, with no specific timeframe confirmed.
