Tomb Raider Creator’s Dream Cycle Now In Early Access
NEWS Sep 7, 2021, 12:00 PM

A game that flew under the radar for some time, Dream Cycle was announced in the recent Gamescom before releasing on early access in Steam this Sept. 7. The brainchild of Toby Gard (Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary, Underworld), Dream Cycle is again a third-person action game with a female protagonist exploring ancient ruins, but the similarity with Tomb Raider ends there. Gard's latest game is a fantasy action-adventure set in an alternate dimension and based on a book series by H.P. Lovecraft. An announcement trailer was shown in the recent Gamescom One Night Live.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These

Players take on the role of Morgan Carter, a wizard-in-training trapped in the Dreamlands after being betrayed by a relative. Finding the dimension shattered and cursed by unknown means, she needs to bring down its dark denizens to free the realm from its wretched state. Thankfully, Morgan isn’t a damsel in distress: you can use magic spells, illusions, traps, and stealth to defeat her enemies. You can also wield conventional weapons like swords and bows, and even firearms. A perk system will allow you to customize your character build, much like with Skyrim. Along the way, you may also learn about Morgan's story as you find the means to escape from the Dreamlands.

Dream Cycle is unique in that it’s an extraordinarily massive and ever-growing sandbox. The early access launch promises 10,000 unique adventures for the player to discover as they traverse each map tile. And like an expanding dream world, new areas, creatures, quests, items, and biomes will become available with each update, enticing players to keep coming back for more.
