Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Trailer Showcases Villainous Heroes

This weekend’s DC Fandome 2021 showed us a LOT of great upcoming stuff related to DC movies and games, and one of the standouts is Rocksteady’s forthcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. You can peep the new trailer now:

Rocksteady announced Suicide Squad last year but didn’t show much beyond introducing the four main villains you control, along with their target, Superman. The new trailer reveals a lot more information about what happens in the game, albeit showing only cinematics.

Firstly, it’s obvious that Suicide Squad takes place in Rocksteady’s “Arkhamverse,” as shown in the intro that mimics the first few seconds of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Batman villain Penguin also appears, complete with the bottle glass monocle he wore in the Arkham games.

The four inmates you control—Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn, get drafted by government agent Amanda Waller into the state-sanctioned Task Force X. Their mission: to take down the Justice League, whose members have been corrupted by supervillain Brainiac and are currently wreaking havoc in the city.

Task Force X has their work cut out for them. Their targets include Superman, Green Lantern, and, surprisingly, the Flash as well. It’s also likely that Brainiac will play the big bad, as shown by the tentacled bioweapons he deploys throughout the city.

The city in question appears to be Metropolis, which houses the Hall of Justice, as evidenced by the superhero statues seen in the background. Task Force X is seen raiding the armory beneath the Hall itself.

It’s going to be a daunting task going up against top-tier heroes like Superman. What makes it even more difficult is that the League members seem to possess a will of their own, as shown by Flash threatening the Squad members. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman remains uncorrupted and is seen fighting Superman, though whether she will be an ally or antagonist to the Squad remains to be seen.

One notable missing League member is Batman, who hasn’t been shown in the trailer. That said, a gloved hand is shown picking up a gun to aim at Harley. Could we be looking at Jason Todd from Batman: Arkham Knight

Since the trailer is all cinematics stitched together, there’s still much we don’t know about, like the actual gameplay of Suicide Squad. All we know so far is that it’s a 1-4 player co-op game where you can play alone and switch between characters. Hopefully, a gameplay trailer will follow shortly.
