Refreshed Ryzen 7 9850X3D shows off support for 9800 MT/s DDR5 speeds
A new AMD Ryzen CPU has been uncovered. HXL has released a screenshot of an ASUS B850 motherboard displaying the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU in action. This CPU is said to be a faster variant of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is the company’s top-performing gaming processor.
According to previous leaks, this CPU boasts a boost clock speed that is 400 MHz higher than that of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D. This represents an increase of 7.69% in boost clock speed. Recently leaked Passmark scores indicate that the CPU performs approximately 4.7% better than its predecessor in both single-threaded and multi-threaded tasks.
Despite the increased clock speed, AMD’s Ryzen 7 9850X3D doesn't necessarily provide a significant upgrade over the current X3D flagship. However, these speed enhancements make AMD’s latest X3D CPU a more appealing upgrade option for users of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and non-X3D AMD CPUs. Additionally, it strengthens AMD’s competitive position against Intel in the gaming CPU market.

AMD's website has recently verified the presence of its Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU. Therefore, it seems likely that an official unveiling of this processor by AMD is imminent. The Ryzen 9000 series "Granite Ridge" CPUs are expected to officially support the JEDEC standard of DDR5-5600, but a newer and well-tested IOD could lead to support for 9800 MT/s RAM.
Intel will provide support for DDR5-7200 through CUDIMM memory modules in its Arrow Lake Refresh processors, with several DDR5 overclocking world records already set using the Intel Z890 platform and Core Ultra CPUs. This raises the possibility that AMD could aim for some of those world records on its AM5 platform with higher DDR5-9800 memory support, and potentially even higher.
With the buzz generated from the leaks about the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, you don’t need to wait to achieve outstanding gaming performance. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is already a well-established X3D powerhouse, delivering excellent frame rates and remarkable efficiency in the present day.
