Risk of Rain series is a common choice for those looking for an exciting roguelike experience that combines platforms and lots of action and demonstrates that if you work hard enough you can achieve great things in the world of videogames with a good idea. Risk of Rain started as a student project and was funded through Kickstarter and it managed to catch the attention of many players. The release of Risk of Rain 2 in August 2020, consolidated developer Hopoo Games as an indie studio and took the gameplay to a new level with even more exciting features. Now, two years after Risk of Rain 2 entered Early Access on Steam, the game is celebrating its anniversary with a free patch that adds content that was left out of the launch version and some extra surprises.
Our goal with this update is to really flesh out and round out the base game, and also be a ‘thanks!’ to all our fans that supported us through Early Access. A lot of the focus of this update is revisiting old items and finishing up content that didn’t make it into 1.0 release - we’ve added like 88 lore entries. We will have to wait to find out which version of it will be available but it's quite likely that he will be equipped with guns, and several kinds of explosives, including smoke bombs.
Hopoo Games has also used this opportunity to talk about the future of Risk of Rain 2. They plan on releasing the first expansion for the game in the last quarter of 2021 and it will bring new survivors, items, bosses, random events, and more. They have hired more people to work on the console version of the game, and their goal is to launch the new content at the same time across all platforms. That's definitely great news for those that play Risk of Rain 2 on consoles.
