Overwatch League announces the return of live events
The effect of the pandemic on eSports has been huge when it comes to living events. The huge majority of them have been canceled and spectators have been forced to enjoy the competitions at home via the internet. Even though it's true that there is a huge number of players that follow those events via Twitch and other streaming platforms, there is nothing like attending one of those events and experiencing the thrill of the competition by yourself next to your favorite team. Thankfully enough, it seems that the situation is slowly getting better and therefore, we are slowly getting accustomed to the new normality. In this context, Overwatch is taking the first step to return to how things were before. The Overwatch League will be celebrating the end of its current season in September and it seems that it will mark a return to the live events, allowing the public to attend the matches for the first time in a long while.
Both the playoffs and the grand finals of this season will be played in front of live audiences. The playoffs will take place from September 16 to September 19 at the Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas. The Grand Finals will be held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on September 25. If you are interested in attending any of those events you will be able to buy your tickets next month, but the most important thing about this announcement is that it will mark the return of esports competition to normality. We don't know yet if the entrance will be restricted to those that are vaccinated only or what kind of restrictions there will be in place, but for those that love to participate in these events, it's definitely great news.
Nothing has been said about next year's schedule for the Overwatch League competition. Blizzard is currently working on the development of Overwatch 2, and it may happen that all the fans shift their attention to the new game if it's finally released this year. That would have an impact on the competition but we are sure that Blizzard, the teams, and the Overwatch League organization will swiftly adapt to the new circumstances to continue delivering a thrilling esports experience.
