Nintendo Switch becomes the fastest selling console in the US
Nintendo breaks records, selling 4.8 million Nintendo Switch through the first 10 months of the console in the US market. It's true that Nintendo has a great player base, but during the last few years, their sales numbers for Nintendo Wii and its respective games have not really been that great, especially if you compare them to the numbers from Sony and Microsoft for PlayStation and Xbox One. We could argue that the public never really got used to the type of games developed for Wii or that maybe the flagship franchises of the Japanese company were losing their appeal, or maybe it's just that the other console companies were just doing it better. But the truth is that Nintendo has managed to reinvent itself and came up with Nintendo Switch, a home console that mixes a couple of wireless controllers that double as grips for sort of tablet computer, that can rest into a docking station; a new type of console that allows you to play in many different ways and that adds quite a big deal of mobility and versatility compared to the other ones.
Those multiple options add a lot of value to the console, but the console itself is not the only reason for the resurgence of Nintendo. We have to take a look at the games, and this is where the classic franchises form the brand start shining. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey have managed to give quite a significant push to the sales. There are many reasons why it has become one of the favorites of the public, being elected as Game of the Year during The Game Awards 2017 ceremony, but the most important thing is that it's leading the rebirth of Nintendo. For all of us that grew up with characters like Super Mario, Link or Samus Aran as part of our life it's great news that they are back into the fray, so we can only be glad about Nintendo Switch's numbers, hoping that the release of new great games and more innovative consoles keeps happening.
