Sony’s PlayStation Portal OLED model reportedly set to arrive in 2026
According to well-known leaker Kepler_L2, Sony is preparing to release an updated version of its popular PlayStation Portal later this year. The refreshed model is said to feature an OLED display, along with the possibility of additional hardware improvements.
The rumor originates from a post by KeplerL2 on NeoGAF. During the discussion, the leaker initially referenced a future PlayStation handheld using RDNA5 architecture before shifting focus to the PlayStation Portal. They noted that the current Portal model “appears to be a success,” adding that PlayStation is working on “another version this year.” When pressed for clarification, KeplerL2 replied that it would be an OLED version.
The PlayStation Portal is designed to stream games either directly from a PlayStation 5 or through cloud streaming, allowing users to play without being physically close to their console. This makes it easier for PlayStation owners to enjoy their games remotely and while on the move.

An OLED screen would bring several advantages to the device, including enhanced image clarity and better motion handling. Players could expect richer colors, deeper blacks, less motion blur, and stronger HDR performance. However, the actual quality of Sony’s OLED panel - and how much more expensive the new model might be compared to the original - remains unclear.
Although many questions still surround this rumored revision, one thing is certain: the PlayStation Portal has been a major commercial success for Sony. In the U.S. alone, the device has reportedly surpassed two million units sold, far exceeding initial expectations. Given this momentum, an OLED variant would be a logical move to attract players who have yet to buy into the ecosystem.
The PlayStation Portal demonstrates just how smooth and accessible remote play can be - but to get the most out of it, you need the most powerful PlayStation at the center of it all.. The PlayStation 5 Pro offers improved performance, quicker load times, and next-generation visuals that can make every Portal session feel smoother and more detailed.
