Next-gen DualSense V3 PS5 controller may come with a removable battery
According to a report from ppe.pl, Sony is set to unveil a new “DualSense V3” controller later this year alongside an updated PlayStation 5 Pro model. The upcoming PS5 Pro is said to have minor design modifications and consumes approximately 3% less power compared to previous PS5 Pro versions. This latest console will come equipped with Sony’s new DualSense controller, which is rumored to include a removable battery.
Currently, all Sony DualSense controllers have integrated batteries. This design requires users to connect their controllers for charging, which is a frequent annoyance among PlayStation gamers. In contrast, Xbox controllers can operate with AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack, enabling users to quickly replace batteries or packs when needed. It seems Sony plans to incorporate similar capabilities into its DualSense controllers.

It remains unclear if the removable battery will be a standard rechargeable pack or if it will work with regular AA batteries like the Xbox wireless controller. In any case, the benefit is that users could purchase an additional battery and switch it out when the one in the controller runs low, eliminating the need to connect the gamepad to a PS5 console (or USB port). There is, of course, the additional cost of buying an extra battery, but that would be entirely optional.
With this new battery configuration, Sony seems to be providing DualSense users with more choices. The ability to swap batteries is a practical feature, and it appears PlayStation users will soon benefit from it. Currently, it is uncertain whether older DualSense controller models will be phased out or if Sony’s new iteration will have different pricing.
At present, the PlayStation 5 is still the premier way to experience Sony’s latest exclusives, stunning graphics, and rapid load times.
