Power supplies step up as MSI teases world-first PSU protection tech
MSI has begun to hint at its upcoming MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5 and MPG Ai1600 PCIE5 power supplies in anticipation of CES 2026. The company specifically mentions addressing “invisible problems” associated with PSUs, claiming it will “eliminate them.” MSI is introducing new technology to its power supply offerings.
MSI asserts that it features a “world-first proactive and instant protection” mechanism for its latest PSUs. The company plans to unveil more details on this new technology at CES 2026 later this month. According to MSI’s teaser, both power supplies come with dual 12V-2×6 power outputs. Additionally, they include a USB Type-C output, which may be intended for monitoring the PSU.
As we enter a new year, PSU manufacturers are exploring innovative methods to prevent cable meltdowns involving 12V-2×6 connectors. The teaser video presents a brief look at a power supply, suggesting a potential combination of a USB Type-C and a 12V-2×6 connector, featuring a shield logo in between, hinting at enhanced protection features. Current speculation is that MSI is integrating some form of monitoring technology to address ongoing issues with this problematic power connector, which has received numerous reports of component damage since it was introduced.
The video further highlights the MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5 and MPG Ai1600 PCIE5 power supplies, with MSI stating that more information will be provided at CES 2026. The MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5 and MPG Ai1600 PCIE5 are expected to have power output ratings of 1300W and 1600W, respectively. The efficiency ratings for these new power supplies have yet to be revealed. However, MSI’s MPG Ai1600T has an 80+ rating and is rated by Cybenetics as Titanium. It is anticipated that MSI’s new TS-series units will feature similar ratings.
MSI confirms that the reveal will take place at CES 2026, so look forward to comprehensive details next week. As always, for the latest news on hardware launches and industry developments, be sure to follow our dedicated hardware coverage.
