Microsoft hikes US Xbox prices across all models due to tariffs
Microsoft is implementing adjustments to its Xbox console pricing, marking the second occasion the company has altered its hardware prices. In May, there was a price increase on both Xbox consoles and accessories, with hikes reaching as much as $130. The recent adjustment represents yet another elevation in pricing. However, the changes won’t take effect immediately.
Starting October 3, the recommended retail prices for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in the United States will be affected by this adjustment. Microsoft stated that the increase is occurring due to fluctuations in the "macroeconomic environment."
"Beginning on October 3, we will update the recommended retailer pricing for Series S and Series X consoles in the United States due to changes in the macroeconomic environment," the company clarified.
As per the changes, the cost of the Xbox Series X will rise by as much as $70, while the Series S will see an increase of up to $20. When combined with earlier price hikes from this year, the total increase for these consoles, released in 2020, is significant. Given Microsoft's strong focus on its cross-platform Xbox Game Pass, it has become increasingly difficult to justify the cost of a Series X.

Here are the most recent adjustments:
- Xbox Series S 512GB: $399.99 (up $20 from $379.99)
- Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99 (up $20 from $429.99)
- Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99 (up $50 from $549.99)
- Xbox Series X: $649.99 (up $50 from $599.99)
- Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition: $799.99 (up $70 from $729.99)
"We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration," continued the company. "Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players."
In contrast to the previous price hike, prices for accessories such as Xbox Wireless Controllers and headsets will not be changing. Additionally, regions outside the United States will not be affected by the latest price increases.
