The most overpowered character in Jujutsu Kaisen, Satoru Gojo, took a moment to explain the tag team mechanics present in the upcoming anime fighting game to players. In Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash, each match will be played in 2v2, where both team members must work in synergy and assist each other with their unique curse abilities.
The trailer shows that characters with a certain chemistry will have some advantages, but it doesn't mention what happens if there is a tag team between unacquainted two characters. Yuji Itadori is seen fighting alongside his brother, Aoi Todo, while their Cursed Techniques can execute devastating combos on enemies. Other confirmed combinations seen in the trailer are between Nanami and Gojo, and also Panda together with Toge Inumaki. All in all, it all depends on your gameplay style.
Players will need to accumulate the Cursed Energy gauge to use their special abilities. As the battle progresses, characters can use Ultimate Moves, Joint Attacks, and Awakened Moves that can turn the tide, such as domain expansion. So far, sixteen playable characters have been confirmed, but we are already expecting that more will be announced through DLC or a season pass.
The offline mode will retell the anime's story but will add some never-before-seen scenes for die-hard fans. The storytelling mode is presented in a visual novel style, as seen in Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections. As the story advances, the relationship chart progresses, rewarding the player with various bonuses and rewards.
The online mode will offer various match modes, both against players or CPU:
- Online versus, where players are matched in 2v2 battles with other players from around the world.
- Online co-op mode with a partner to take on CPU opponents with increasing difficulty.
- Online lobby creates a private lobby where players can challenge their friends.
In the online mode, characters can level up, increasing their base attributes or equipping new gear, increasing the damage done by a type of attack. As your character's level rises, new customization options are unlocked, allowing you to modify your character to make it your own.
The game is being developed by Byking, the same team that worked on My Hero One's Justice 2. Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash will be released on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
