Dead Island 2 could release next year

It's been a long while since Dead Island 2 was announced. The second installment in the popular zombie slaughtering series should have been available in 2014, but an unexpected series of occurrences have turned its development into a nightmare. The sequel to Dead Island switched developers twice but Deep Silver seems to be quite interested in launching it one way or another, so we keep getting reminded every now and then that the game is still in development. It would be no different this year, but there are some informations that are hinting at a future release in spring 2023.

Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors comments in a Q&A session during the finnancial report of the company. When questioned about the future release of Dead Island 2 in the next financial year, he answered the following:

"I can't talk about Dead Island 2 because it's not announced, as such, from the publisher, but we have just talked about—we have one unannounced triple-A title that you think is Dead Island 2. It's hard for me to comment further on that. But I'm excited about unannounced titles."

Although his answer does not point directly at a Dead Island 2 release in 2023, it does not serve as a confirmation. Some insiders have reported that the game is in good shape and that it would launch in late 2022 or early 2023. Therefore, it's definitely clear that something is happening and we may see an official Dead Island 2 announcement sometime this year.

The Dead Island series has been maintained alive with several other games, including Dead Island: Riptide, Escape Dead Island, and Dead Island: Epidemic, but the second main installment in the series would definitely be a nice zombie survival adventure to enjoy at the beginning of 2023.
