Microsoft rolls out Xbox Full Screen Experience for MSI Claw testers
ASUS partnered with Microsoft to release the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handhelds on October 16, which came with several distinctive features. The Xbox team highlighted three major capabilities offered by the new Xbox-branded devices. One of these is the Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE), designed to provide a console-like interface along with various optimizations.
Until recently, FSE was exclusive to the Xbox Ally devices; however, Microsoft has now integrated FSE support for third-party handhelds in its latest Windows Insider Preview Build. Support is currently being rolled out for MSI Claw devices, with additional handhelds set to be enabled in the upcoming months.

The Windows Full Screen Experience offers more than just a console-like user interface (UI). This feature enhances task switching and overall performance by reducing background processes and postponing non-essential tasks. This results in increased memory efficiency and performance, contributing to extended battery life and improved game performance. This is crucial for delivering an optimal handheld gaming experience on Windows.
The MSI Claw gaming handhelds are available in both Intel and AMD variants, providing powerful portable gaming that competes with others in the market. As Windows 11 devices, they benefit from the 'Full Screen Experience', not only simplifying navigation through settings, apps, and games but also enhancing performance by minimizing or halting unnecessary background tasks.
Activating FSE is simple and can be accessed in Windows 11's 'Settings > Gaming' section, where you can choose 'Xbox' from the 'Choose home app' dropdown menu. Additionally, you can configure your handheld to launch directly into the 'Full Screen Experience' upon startup. The Xbox Full Screen Experience could pave the way for more gaming-oriented enhancements in Windows. Let’s hope Microsoft recommits to prioritizing Windows’ performance, efficiency, and user experience.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a handheld that is already established, optimized for top performance, and tailored for serious gaming on the go, the ROG Ally X is a clear choice. With extended battery life, enhanced ergonomics, and complete Windows functionality, it represents what the future of handheld gaming should strive to achieve.
