Mark your calendars: Valve's Steam Controller launches on May 4, 2026
Valve first revealed the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and a redesigned Steam Controller back in November 2025, and now one of those devices is finally ready to launch. The company has confirmed that the new Steam Controller will arrive next week, while updates on the other hardware are expected to follow soon.
The controller is set to release on May 4, 2026, at 1AM PT. According to official details, it will retail for $99 / £85 / €99, matching earlier leaks. You can track its availability directly through its Steam store page, including regional support.
In terms of features, the new Steam Controller is clearly positioned as a premium option. It includes dual trackpads designed to better handle mouse-style inputs, magnetic TMR thumbsticks aimed at reducing stick drift, built-in haptics, gyro controls, an 8.39 Wh lithium-ion battery, and additional back buttons. Valve has also emphasized repairability, with a design that allows users to easily open the device using standard screws.
Inside the box, you’ll find the controller, a wireless “puck” that doubles as a receiver and charging dock, and a USB-A to USB-C cable. Valve recommends using the puck for quick connectivity and convenient charging, though Bluetooth support is also available for direct wireless pairing without it.
As for the rest of Valve’s upcoming hardware, the company is still dealing with component shortages. In an interview with IGN, Pierre-Louis Griffais suggested that the Steam Machine may be the next product to receive a full announcement, with development reportedly nearing completion.
With its combination of advanced features like TMR joysticks, trackpads, gyro aiming, and HD rumble, the new Steam Controller is shaping up to be a high-end alternative to traditional gamepads, with a strong focus on longevity and versatility.
