Philips claims a world first with its new 36-inch 260Hz gaming monitor

Philips unveils a massive 36-inch gaming monitor with a 260Hz refresh rate

Philips is expanding its Evnia gaming monitor lineup with the 36M4C5500P, a curved ultrawide display that the company describes as the world's first 36-inch gaming monitor. The new model sits between the more common 34-inch ultrawides and larger 38- or 39-inch alternatives, offering a little extra screen space without moving to a higher resolution.

The Evnia 36M4C5500P uses a 1500R curved Fast VA panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3440 × 1440. Its native refresh rate reaches 240Hz, with an overclocking option that pushes it to 260Hz. However, the larger panel retains the same pixel count as typical 34-inch ultrawide monitors, so buyers get a physically bigger image rather than additional desktop space or sharper detail.

Philips lists a gray-to-gray response time of 1ms, alongside a 0.3ms MPRT rating when Smart MBR is enabled. The monitor also carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, with typical SDR brightness rated at 350 nits and peak HDR brightness reaching 500 nits. Other specifications include a 4000:1 static contrast ratio and 95% DCI-P3 color coverage. Philips additionally claims Delta E below 2 for color accuracy, while the anti-glare coating should help reduce distracting reflections during extended use.

Connectivity is relatively limited for a modern gaming display. The monitor offers two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 connection, and a 3.5mm audio jack, but no USB ports for peripherals. DisplayPort supports the full 3440 × 1440 resolution at 240Hz, whereas HDMI is limited to 100Hz at the same resolution. Reaching 260Hz requires enabling the overclocking mode.

Other features include MultiView for displaying two input sources simultaneously, a height-adjustable stand with tilt support, and rear-facing Iconglow RGB lighting. Philips also includes several gaming-focused on-screen display tools, such as Stark ShadowBoost, Smart Crosshair, Smart Sniper, and Smart MBR Sync.

As part of the Evnia 5000 series, the 36M4C5500P could target the more affordable end of the gaming monitor market. Philips has yet to reveal its price, however, and the initial launch is limited to selected retailers in the Asia-Pacific region. Availability in Europe and North America has not been confirmed.
