Nvidia RTX 5060 laptop GPU to feature GDDR7 memory and 20% lower power consumption

Nvidia RTX 5060 laptop GPU to feature GDDR7 memory and 20% lower power consumption

Graphics cards rely heavily on memory, and faster memory is always superior. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Nvidia’s upcoming next-generation GeForce RTX cards, anticipated for release around 2025, will incorporate advanced GDDR7 memory modules.

Recent reports indicate that the new technology won't just be available for desktop PCs but will also be featured in laptop cards within the 50 series. During a presentation from a Chinese laptop manufacturer, details about Nvidia’s upcoming "Blackwell" laptop cards, specifically the xx60 version of the card, were revealed. These cards will likely be named the GeForce RTX 5060, but the official naming has not been confirmed.

As stated by the chairman of Shenzhen Hasee Computer Co., these laptop graphics cards will be the first available on the market to be equipped with GDDR7 memory, which is currently in its final stages of pre-production from suppliers.

This information was discovered by a social media user and reported by WCCFTech, indicating the possibility of errors stemming from live presentation transcriptions and translations. Nevertheless, the information appears to be consistent. Although laptop GPUs are generally based on the same technology as their desktop counterparts, the constraints of mobile tech design may result in slightly reduced performance. It's reassuring to know that fast memory will not be compromised for laptop users.

The chairman also mentioned that the newer chips will consume less power than current-generation laptop GPUs, reducing from a maximum of 140 watts for the RTX 4060 to 115 watts. Remarkably, this will be achieved without sacrificing performance. The presentation suggested that the RTX 5060 (name unconfirmed) will either match or surpass the capabilities of the RTX 4070 laptop card.

The RTX 50 series is projected to encompass the usual range, from the 5050 all the way up to the 5090, on both desktop and laptop platforms. Although a specific timeframe has not been disclosed, a release in mid-to-late 2025 would align with established patterns.
