GDDR7 shortage could halt NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series SUPER rollout plans
The DRAM market is experiencing significant shortages, which could lead Nvidia to reconsider or even cancel its planned RTX 50 SUPER series GPU lineup, according to a report from Uniko’s Hardware.
A key factor is the scarcity of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules. These modules are central to Nvidia's RTX 50 SUPER strategy, as they would allow a 50% increase in VRAM by replacing 2GB modules on existing GPUs with minimal redesign. For example, the RTX 5070 SUPER would gain 18GB of memory, while the RTX 5070 Ti SUPER and RTX 5080 SUPER would feature 24GB. This memory boost would be highly beneficial for gamers and productivity users.

due to the crazy shortage recently, 3gb gddr7 cant make it to the consumer market for desktop, thus the super series is cancelled.
and the current models are expected to be more expensive very soon, because of the increasing cost of 2gb gddr7. pic.twitter.com/yMSMj1MjqJ
However, with DRAM prices rapidly increasing, manufacturers are unlikely to prioritize producing more 3GB GDDR7 modules for Nvidia if other DRAM products are more profitable. A shortage would also inflate the cost of these modules, making it less appealing for manufacturers to focus on them.
If Nvidia has limited access to 3GB GDDR7 modules, it would be logical to allocate them to their most profitable products, such as the RTX 5090 laptop GPU and the RTX PRO 6000 series GPUs.
probably reserved for both rtx5090 laptop and rtx pro 6000. these two stuffs make a lot of money that desktop gpu cant even dream of.

These DRAM shortages are largely attributed to the excessive spending on AI data centers. While the end of Windows 10 is prompting PC upgrades, consumer DRAM demands are minor compared to the needs of AI data centers. Nvidia may be forced to completely alter or cancel its RTX 50 SUPER product line if memory costs prove too high to justify memory upgrades.
With the RTX 50 SUPER series reportedly delayed due to ongoing DRAM shortages, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is presented as an immediate alternative. This GPU features 16GB of high-speed VRAM, advanced RDNA 4 architecture, and strong gaming efficiency, offering power and performance without the wait.
